hours to vote on the bill that the senate works out. outside the beltway don will be watching. >> everybody's kind of in a wait and see and finger crossed perspective right now. >> reporter: since 1930, this is only the fifth time congress has worked after christmas. tara mergener for cbs news, washington. >> now this afternoon's white house meeting is the first time the president and all four leaders of the house and senate will meet face-to-face since november 16th. a horrific smashup on the springfield interchange leaves three people dead. it happened around 7:00 last night. the i 495 flyover ramp to i-95 was blocked for most of the night as police cleared the scene. police tell us that a semitrailer was shopped in traffic when it was rear ended by a pickup truck. all three people inside that pickup died at the scene. the semi driver was not injured. geneticists are studying

the dna of adam lanza. he shot his mom and killed 26 people in newtown before taking his own life. the connecticut health center was asked to join the investigation to look for threws about the roots of his -- clues about the roots of his violence in his dna. you can gamble 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at maryland live casino right now. they made it possible. the casino operators say the expanded hours will lead to more jobs and revenue for the state. the state's two other casinos have not yet adopted that 24 hour 7 day a week schedule yet. with same sex marriage set to become legal in maryland next week now a new debate about discrimination laws regarding same sex marriage. >> scott broom was in annapolis where a trolley bus operator is getting out of the wedding business altogether. >> reporter: the discover annapolis trolley does not just have tourists, it does a good business with wedding parties as well as you can see on the

website. but no more. operator matt grubs announced he will not do business with same sex couples on religious grounds and because it would be illegal he's decided to give up weddings altogether with mixed reactions from tourists. >> he stands for his beliefs. >> he might change his mind later on. >> reporter: grubs refused to do interviews but derek mccoy of the anti-gay marriage group maryland alliance calls this an unintended consequence of the law. >> there are consequences to it. >> reporter: what about a wedding photographer or a limo operator who didn't want to do business with african-american couples? what's the difference there? >> well, again, we're not talking about racial discrimination that divides the races. we're talking about a natural concept of marriage that brings together the sexes. >> reporter: other states have had similar debates. innkeepers in vermont for instance who refused to host a same sex wedding were sued and forced to settle. now we can expect the debate to come back to the state capitol

next month as antigay marriage advocates fight for legal protections for people like the trolley owner because they believe he's being discriminated against on religious grounds instead of the other way around. in annapolis, scott broom, 9news now. >> in a related story scott tells us the circuit court clerk in maryland will not force them to perform the same sex weddings. you've likely heard the president george h.w. bush is in the hospital and an aide to the 41st president says the 88-year-old has every intention of getting better and going home. the former president bush remains in intensive care at a houston hospital. and he'll be there a while as doctors deal with the stubborn fever. bush was admitted a month ago for bronchitis. retired general norman schwarzkopf died last night. he gained national attention back in 1991 when he led operation desert storm which of

course liberated kuwait after the iraqi invasion. schwarzkopf was known as storming norman. he reportedly died at his home in tampa. he retired there. former president george h.w. bush offered his condolences in a statement. he was 78. after a hyattsville man tried to take his own life a calm and cool 911 dispatcher and is the power of love and friendship seemed to have saved him. >> now david dawson wants to help others, he hopes they can learn from his experience. debra alfarone spoke to dawson, his mom and the dispatcher. a story you will see only on 9news now. >> reporter: they get more than a million calls here at the prince george's county 911 center but tonight, i want to tell you about just one call.

that ended up saving one life and impacted so many others. >> i just wanted her to get somebody here right away. i knew that he needed somebody right away. >> reporter: linda dawson needed a lifeline. one month ago her son david tried to kill himself. she called 191 and it was the toughest day of her life. >> i took a deep breath and she started counting. >> one, two, three, four. >> and she had me count with her. >> okay? >> one, two, three, four. >> and i continued the cpr the whole time. >> reporter: miles away first time mom to be and prince george's county 911 dispatcher edwards kept calm. >> ma'am, you can take the compressions, somebody opened the front door. one, two, three, four. >> reporter: linda managed to get david's heart beating before ems arrived. >> is he breathing? >> yeah. >> we get to the hospital. and at the hospital, he flatlined three more times. >> reporter: what followed was

three more days of doctors with bad news. >> from then on that he wasn't going to make it and i didn't want to hear that. >> reporter: linda poured her heart out to friends and family on facebook. >> and i asked them if they could come up and visit him. talk to him. touch him and over 60 people came and saw him that day. it's a miracle. definitely a miracle and i mean, thanks -- i'm thankful -- i'm thankful for everybody that helped. because you know what? i wasn't going to let go of him. this was my child. >> reporter: david is doing fine. the 24-year-old says he took meds to try and end it all. after battling years of chronic testicular pain, the countless proceed yours and operations couldn't fix. he says the outpouring of love and care showed him the value his life had. >> all my friends have told me after that, they're like you know you're one of the best friends i've ever had. they put things in perspective. >> reporter: not many people live to hold a book of their

and welcome back. i'm olga breese in for howard bernstein this morning. we have mostly cloudy skies. we'll see a little bit of sunshine through mid-morning and then the clouds move in later on this afternoon. it is a chilly start. right now sitting in the 30s. we'll hit about 40 degrees. the lower 40s by later on this afternoon. and that's about it. our winds out of the north near 5 to 10 miles an hour. it will be brisk and i'm tracking an opportunity for some snow accumulation in the saturday forecast. beverly? olga, the point of concern in bethesda water main repairs are continuing southbound on 355 at cedar lane right near navy -- what we used to call navy med. walter reed and nih. wssc says the crew will be there at least a couple of hours from now into the morning rush hour. a complete look at the traffic coming up in just a few minutes. back to you jessica. thank you beverly. the time right now is 4:41 and i'm watching your money. fingers crossed. maybe we can turn things around today. wall street has been down for four trading sessions in a row. yesterday, stocks did actually get into positive territory

briefly after lawmakers in the house announced they planned to meet sunday to discuss the fiscal cliff. congress and the white house now have less than a week to resolve that impasse. but here's where we ended up. checking the numbers for you -- individual investors pulled $150 billion out of the stock market for the third year in a row. but institutional investors, the hedge funds, the pension funds, they're actually adding to their stock positions. they're poured more than $80 billion into stocks so far this year. it may be time to refinance your mortgage. mortgage rates fell to near record lows yet again this week. freddie mac says the average rate on a 30 year slipped to 3.35%. that's not far from the record. 3.31% that we reached about a month ago. low mortgage rates are making home buying more affordable and allowing more americans to

4:46 right now. that means it's weather first time. olga breese is in for howard bernstein and you have good news compared to the last couple of days. >> we had a bit of a go of it yesterday with the winds and all of that before that with the rains on wednesday. now we're calm on friday. we're going to take that as long as mithras, i some -- it lasts. i am tracking opportunities for

accumulating snow in the forecast tomorrow. as of now we're partly to mostly cloudy but some sunshine through mid-morning. about 10:00, 11:00 we should move out of the 30s and into the lower 40s and i think we'll top out right around 44 degrees at reagan national airport today. but things will be a little bit brisk, winds remain out of the north but they're a little more reasonable today atage 5 to 10 -- at only 5 to 10 miles an hour. then after sunset we definitely watch the temperatures drop back down. in the very chilly 30s around the 6:00 hour. overall today, though we are looking at very cool start to the morning. although the temperature in town is 37 degrees. it's feeling much cooler than that. more like the freezing mark for most of us so bundle up if you're stepping out early. it looks like the snow accumulation is coming our way. the good news is that this will be a minor snow event. maybe 1 to 2 inches and that's all. i'll look at the futurecast forecast model and we can get a grip on the timing. we're fine into the afternoon

tonight. again some breaks in the cloud cover. so the day promises to be a pretty gate day. then -- great day. then cloud cover overspreads us overnight tonight i think most of the precipitation will hold off until about 2:00 a.m. hour. after midnight we'll start to see some light snow showers in our western zones. and then, this will pull on through most of the day on saturday and then by the afternoon, we will definitely clear things out and even work in a little bit of sunshine late in the afternoon. again, not expecting a lot ofay calmlation, only about an inch to 2 inches. so here's how we look for today. forecast is going to take us into the 40s. 44 our high for reagan national. we should see lower 40s up to the north and to the west and overall, not a bad day. green weather alert. that's a good one for us. as we have a nice afternoon but then by tomorrow morning, the rain and snow mix will begin. i think we'll change over touraine later on in the afternoon but our highs tomorrow are going to feel very, very chilly in the lower 40s and upper 30s north and west. overall we calm things down on

sunday. it will be chilly going to the game. a pretty breezy afternoon and temperatures only in the upper 30s to near 40s. but it's going to feel much cooler than that. beverly? olga, we're checking out the ride for folks in virginia on the northbound side of 95. looking good out of fredericksburg quantity koa into woodbridge, light volume heading into springfield and the cash we've been telling you about in the news overnight on the outer loop ramp to go south 95, that has been completely resolved and reopened. lanes open for you 395 up to the 14th street bridge. virginia beltway easten 66 lanes open as you make the trip into mans is. centreville heading inside the beltway in falls church and over to the roosevelt bridge. work zone that was eastbound on the toll road at route 7 should be picking up out of the way now. we want to caution you about is into bethesda, southbound lanes of 355 at cedar lane there's been a water main break. they've been out there since yesterday afternoon trying to make repairs. wssc says still for at least the next couple of hours into

be so good. >> reporter: so good customers often order and pay in advance like this woman. the health department found rodent droppings all over the kitchen. >> droppings, oh my gosh and i paid. oh my gosh. >> reporter: what would we find? we'll show you in a moment. but first, this closure on benning road southeast at dollar plus food store. inspectors shut it down reporting unsanitary conditions including no hot water, no sanitation supervisor, and no one who could even answer basic food safety questions. are you the manager? >> i said get out of the store. >> reporter: we're here to talk to you about the health department closure. the owner didn't respond. the same rules this apply to rest hasn'ts that cut -- restaurants that shut down the grocery store also apply to lick score stores that handle food. on chat's liquor at barracks row, they suspended their license for no hot water.

hi, i'm russ ptacek with channel 9. we're here about the health department closure. at turntable restaurant on georgia avenue northwest, they're known for their jamaican style ox tails. inspectors closed the cafe and bar citing a dirty refrigerator, no food safety manager, and no hot water. >> okay. >> reporter: they showed us the hot water a clean kitchen, and proof of a food safety manager on duty. >> thank you. >> reporter: can you just show us the kitchen real quick? back at fuel gee mountain in marlboro heights center, there was rodent droppings in the sushi area. we looked too but -- no rodent tracks. the manager says they cleaned up and put in doorstoppers to seal rodents out. when you say georgetown we're giving this thing here? >> keep the rat away from --
